Baza was the main Roman town (called Basti) of the area and subsequently became ruled by the Moors. The town was conquered by Queen Isabella I after a long siege which started in 1489 and lasted for a year.

Due to its history, Baza is a treasure trove of architecture from the Roman and Moorish periods. It is also the main commercial centre with large supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

For those interested in history, it is worth visiting The Archaeological Museum which has a collection of artifacts from all periods.
