The Castril fiestas occur in October and last a week. They are not just all eating and drinking - there is a large religious aspect as they are based around Castril's saints, 'Cristo del Consuelo and the 'Virgen del Rosario'. There are also sporting events for children, musical events, theatre etc. Then there is the running of the bulls and the encierro where the general public does its level best to be seriously injured by an angry ruminant. This has been done every year since 1760. Incredibly, the whole centre of the town is turned over to the bull run for a week with seating, gates, fencing etc. The corral is used to entertain the young children first by chasing them with bull's heads on wheels. During the running, the whole town becomes packed with revellers. All of the horsemen in the area bring their steeds down to the village and it is an opportunity for horse lovers to see some beautiful specimens.
